[BIO]
Jonas Kolecki is a filmmaker, painter, and collagist whose multidisciplinary practice centers on time as both a tool and a subject. His work explores themes of ephemerality, decay, and the human impact on landscapes—physical and conceptual alike. Through site-specific and context-sensitive approaches, he creates projects across painting, film, performance, and collaboration that investigate the traces and transformations left by human presence. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich in Munich, Germany, where he was part of the class of Olaf Nicolai. His work has been exhibited at institutions including Fondazione Antonio Dalle Nogare, Bolzano, Italy (2020); Fondazione Centro Arti Visive di Pietrasanta, Pietrasanta, Italy (2018); and Kunstarkaden München, Munich, Germany (2023). His works are held in collections including the Muri-Gries Monastery, Bolzano, and the Barth Collection, Bressanone, Italy.

[ABOUT]
My practice moves between drawing, painting, and film, using images as a form of applied philosophy. I investigate how environments, architecture, and consumption shape identity, revealing the traces and reminiscences we leave behind while reflecting on the fleeting nature of existence. Travel, research, and chance encounters form the foundation of my work. I weave connections between past, present, and future, allowing coincidence to become an active collaborator. Although cinema is my gateway into image-making, every project begins as a drawing; some remain on paper, while others evolve into film or spatial installations. My approach is simple: I go on field trips to stumble upon things. I bring these discoveries back to the studio, where I care for and develop them further—much like a Pokémon trainer nurturing creatures until they reveal their full potential. Walking is both my philosophical method and my way of drawing in space: it begins with intention, but becomes most rewarding when it opens itself to the unknown.
